Vegas, Baby

My husband finally succeeded. He has finally convinced me to go to Las Vegas with him. I love to travel but I’m not a gambler at all. He’s been telling me for years that I should go with him just to see it. He’s been there several times for work and for fun and really enjoys it each time. He’s always said he wanted to see it with me, however. I know, so sweet.

We had wanted to take a trip for our tenth anniversary last September but I was hugely pregnant with Alice so we decided we’d do the trip around our 11th anniversary. By the way I cannot believe we’ve been married almost 11 years, and together for over 17. We had been discussing trips to Seattle, San Francisco, Washington D.C., but decided to go to Vegas during their low season to save money that we can spend on nice dinners out. Vegas is full of great restaurants (Chris did some great research in trying to convince me to go). We’re for sure going to be eating at Bouchon, Thomas Keller’s bistro, and at Alize, the amazing French restaurant which is, apparently, one of the best restaurants in the country (who rates them all, anyway?).

Chris had my agreement when he came up with an itinerary that included these restaurants and an afternoon by a pool, reading. I can’t believe that that sounds great to me. I’m a doer kind of gal-wanting to see the sights, visit museums, get things done. That’s why Chris calls me Twitch. But this year at home with two young kids has made me very interested in just relaxing. Oh that sounds like heaven. And reading a book uninterrupted? Holy cow, I can actually hear angels singing.

We won’t be gambling-just sleeping, eating, relaxing, seeing the sights of the strip. I just need to get some clothes that don’t have paint/food/drool stains on them!

Have you been to Vegas lately? What should we do or see? Where would you eat?

The last time I was in Vegas was almost 5 years ago (right before Brian and I got married). I ran the half marathon and Brian stayed up all night gambling (he didn’t even lose much money!). We loved going to the Hoover Dam and had hours of cheap fun gambling at a casino not far from there. I don’t even like to gamble but it was cheap and empty! You have to see some shows while you’re in Vegas – we saw Wayne Brady and one of the Cirque de Solei shows (I think it was Ka). There are always some great deals for food & entertainment in Vegas so check those out ahead of time. 3-4 days is perfect – I was there for a week (3 days for fun and 4 for work) that trip and it was enough of the “dinging” of the slot machines and the smoke in the casinos as you walk to the hotel room. Have fun – you deserve a great time together, just the two of you!!
