Moms Gone Wild

mnoSix women sitting on counter-height bar stools laughing, drinking, eating and having a great time.  It’s karaoke night at Minneapolis’ 1029 Bar and the place is packed on a Friday night!  Who knew?  I haven’t been to a bar in so long that I have forgotten that people actually go out on occasion!  The six of us are all moms and we are having a rare mom’s night out! No kids.  No husbands or boyfriends or partners.  Moms. Gone. Wild.

We all had a few drinks, ate some amazing french fries, lobster mac-n-cheese and mostly just caught up on each other’s lives.  We talked about our kids, men, sex, boobs, the bad and good karaoke singing and everything in between.  I never sing karaoke but I even got up with a friend and belted out Boston’s “More Than a Feeling”.  I sounded horrible but Colleen sounded good!  That’s about as crazy as we got but we had a ball.

We’ve said this before, but it is SO important to take time for yourself as a mother.  We spend most of our time taking care of everyone else – the kids, the husband, the cat or dog – and we lose ourselves in process.  I didn’t even remember this mom’s night out was scheduled.  Brian had reserves this weekend and I thought there was no way I’d even get a few minutes alone!  I decided at the last minute to go and am so glad I did. After a long week it was a needed respite from my children – no matter how good they are.

So as we start this last week of February, grab your calendar and schedule some time for yourself!  If not this week, then the next week.  Just get it done!  It doesn’t matter what it is, just do something that you enjoy or will make you laugh.  We did alot of that on Friday night!
